Don joined Umpqua Investments in 2009 with over 30 years of experience as a financial advisor in Oregon, including twenty years with Smith Barney and ten years with Kidder Peabody. Don is a thoughtful listener, he does his best to understand and communicate his clients' needs.
Don's investment process is driven by objective financial planning and client-based goal and needs assessment. His experience in building bond ladders began in 1980 at Kidder Peabody while working with Umpqua Investments' bond trader Scott Baines. Extensive experience in mutual fund investing led to ongoing research, fund analysis, and the management of multiple mutual fund portfolios. He prefers investment solutions that are transparent, transferable and proven staples of the investment industry. These investment solutions are then easy to compare and understand for his clients and help to reduce any conflicts of interest.
Don graduated from the University of Oregon in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in social science and a minor in journalism. He is married to Holiday Johnson, a Master yoga teacher and founder of "Standing on Your Own Two Feet" tm, a non-profit teaching self confidence and yoga to teens in public schools.
